Forgiving Our Fathers and Mothers: Finding Freedom from Hurt and Hate Book Review

Ever since I was younger I have struggled with my childhood, certain things happened that have impacted my life. Since accepting Jesus into my heart I have felt the need to forgive my mother for the past experiences in my life, but I had no idea where to begin.

When I saw this book Forgiving Our Fathers and Mothers: Finding Freedom from Hurt and Hate by Dr. Leslie Leyland Fields on BookLook Bloggers site I wanted to read it. I am so glad I did. This book has shown me ways to overcome my grudges and forgive not only my mother but others who have caused my hurt in life.

The one quote that has stuck with me during this whole book is this... "Forgiveness is not saying what someone did to you was right, instead it releases them of your judgement and opens the door for God's judgement, which isn't God the only one who should be passing judgment on people's actions anyways?

The way this book was written makes it very easy to read and understand. It has study questions at the end of each chapter to help you interact with this selection and grow and learn how to forgive. I personally am taking this book to my Pastor because I think it would make an excellent book to do in a small group with our church.

I never realized how much of a struggle forgiving someone can be, until I began to try to be forgiving, but this book has shown me that it is a long journey and will probably not happen overnight but that in time if I keep working on it, I will be able to forgive my mother.

I highly recommend picking this book up if you are interested in learning how to truly forgive someone. You can find this selection on Amazon, they sell the actual paperback book along with the Kindle version depending on which you would prefer.
